Health Insurance for Exchange Students
Many exchange students are surprised at the high cost of health care in the United States. The UA Student Insurance Plan is mandatory for all exchange students and must be paid for by the first day of classes. The only exemptions to this plan is for exchange students who have insurance policies that meet the following requirements:
- The plan is automatically provided to exchange students by their home-university or by the organization coordinating your exchange. Exemptions will not be considered for students with national or private plans.
- The plan meets or exceeds the benefits of the UA plan.
- minimum $300,000 benefit per injury or sickness
- maximum $500 annual deductible
- no less than 70% coinsurance coverage
- the following must be covered: preexisting conditions, outpatient surgery, specialty care services, inpatient hospitalization, primary care services, maternity coverage
- minimum $50,000 repatriation benefits
- minimum $300,000 medical evacuation benefits
These requirements are strictly enforced. Do NOT apply for an exemption if your current insurance plan does not meet these requirements. Additional requirements are discussed in the form in the following paragraph.
If your current health insurance plan meets or exceeds these benefits, you will need to have an exchange or insurance representative from your home country fill out and sign this form. |
