Housng Information
HOUSING IN MOSCOW: Participants in the Moscow programs may choose to live in dormitory housing on the beautiful campus of the GRINT Language Center of the Moscow Academy of the Humanities and Social Sciences (the "Academy") or in a home stay located close to the Academy. Foreign students live in a sector of eight dormitory rooms that have their own baths, kitchen, laundry, etc. A typical room contains two beds, study tables, end tables, and wardrobes or built-in closets. Each sector has its own anteroom with television and telephone. There is security at the entrance to the Academy. All persons entering the area must display a student pass issued by the Academy. Two meals per day are included in the program (M-F).
The home stay provides a private room for each student in a typical Moscow family, anything from families with children to grandmothers alone, where the friendly atmosphere allows our students to use their Russian in a relaxed and natural way. All facilities provide cooking, bedding, television, telephone access. Breakfast and dinner are provided Monday-Friday. This is the most popular form of accommodation and offers opportunity to practice and improve language skills. Families typically live close to the campus.
HOUSING IN ST. PETERSBURG: Our St. Petersburg language group lives either in a home stay or in the dormitory for foreign students at St. Petersburg State University, which is located on Vasilevsky Island on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. In the dormitory, participants live in double-occupancy 2-room suites, each of which contains a small, shared kitchenette and bath. One may pay extra for a single room if singles are available. Each room contains two beds, study table and chairs, built-in closets, and a television. Bed linens are provided, but you must bring your own bath towels.
Since classes are held in the former Smolny Institute at the opposite end of town, the University provides a shuttle bus that transports students to school each day. You will meet many interesting people from all corners of the world while living in the dormitory. If you wish to go downtown, the nearest metro station, Primorskaya, is just a 3-minute bus ride away. Breakfast and supper will be provided each day in the dormitory cafe. The home stay families will provide only 1 meal per day.
